ARTIST

JONTY HURWITZ

Blending art and science in his work, he is the only artist to use anamorphosis in sculpture, creating works that are both unique and original. He is also known for creating the smallest human forms using nano technology. In a 2015 documentary for CNN International dedicated to Hurwitz's work, art critic Estelle Lovatt describes Hurwitz's work in the following terms: "If Leonardo da Vinci were alive today, he would have done what Jonty does today. He would have used algorithms. No artist works like him today. His art is both thoughtful and sensitive, and this is what gives it its uniqueness. Hurwitz's work focuses on the gap between art and science, as the artist is aware that these two notions are closely linked, in the same way as the body and mind to which he refers in his works. In 2009, his first sculpture "Yoda and the Anamorph" won the People's Choice Award at the Maidstone Museum. In 2010, he was selected as a finalist for the 4th International Arte Laguna Prize in Venice. His work was discovered in 2013 by art blogger Christopher Jobson, bringing him to the attention of the general public.
